Six Misconceptions about LASIK
Despite the many benefits of LASIK, over the years some fear-based misconceptions have emerged. Never fear; Dr. Alan Mitchell at the Mitchell Eye Center of Boca Raton, FL is not only here to fix your vision, but address your LASIK hesitancies as well.
Below are some debunked LASIK myths that will hopefully encourage you to get the treatment you need and see LASIK in a more favorable light.
Common Misconceptions about LASIK
LASIK is too expensive
Considering the cost of a decade’s worth of eyeglasses and contact lenses, LASIK costs are very comparable. Additionally, at the Mitchell Eye Center we offer many payment options to meet your finance needs, including CareCredit.
LASIK is a painful and long procedure
LASIK is a practically painless procedure. At the Mitchell Eye Center, we do not use any needles. Our ophthalmologists use anesthetic eye drops to keep our patients eyes comfortable. In rare cases, patients’ eyes may feel scratchy or “sandy” afterward, but this uncommon side effect won’t last more than a few hours. Although the entire LASIK process (including prep time) is roughly 60 to 90 minutes, the actual LASIK procedure lasts only 10 to 15 minutes.
LASIK is risky
LASIK is a very safe procedure that utilizes the most advanced tools and technologies. According to research and clinical studies, the risk of actually reducing your vision due to a LASIK complication is less than 1%. In addition, LASIK only affects the front surface of the eye, so serious complications are very rare. If you are unsatisfied with your LASIK results, there are still many different treatments available to improve your vision.
Recovery is lengthy
The recovery time for LASIK is very brief. In fact, at the Mitchell Eye Center, we aim to schedule most LASIK procedures on Fridays so patients can fully recover over the weekend. Most LASIK patients are able to resume day-to-day activities within two days of their procedure.
LASIK is not permanent
Once a patient’s cornea shape has been modified, the change is permanent! But, regardless of whether or not you’ve had LASIK treatment, all eyes change as they age. Fortunately, according to studies, this change will be very minimal.
You can be too old for LASIK
LASIK is available for anyone at any age!
